At the Dark End of the Street Wins the Lillian Smith Award

In my acceptance speech for the Lillian Smith Award, I talked about how the Southern Regional Council’s oral history project “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” made me rethink the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, the role of women and sexual violence in the civil rights movement and how Rosa Parks was more fierce than I originally thought.
